Merrill Lynch Team to JMS

The placement of Noah Doyle and Charles Princiotto with Janney Montgomery Scott LLC was a major succession play. All three parties greatly benefited from the marriage: Stanley Hochhauser created greater equity in the business he has built over several decades of hard work (not to mention creating a multi-generational approach to provide value to his clients and their descendants); Noah and Charles gained access to the knowledge and experience of an industry veteran, in addition to an influx of assets and future growth opportunities and JMS ensured that they retain the assets within Stanley’s book as he plans to transition out of the business over the next five to ten years. Megan Hausmann, a Senior Recruiter and Partner here at the firm, worked closely with Noah and Charles over several years to build a relationship. Megan helped cultivate a clear idea of how the growth of their business would occur, which was mainly focused on acquisition. After evaluating several firms, including independents, we were fortunate to find a great opportunity which arose with one of Novum’s top clients in the Northeast, Janney Montgomery Scott. The rest was up to Stanley and Noah’s teams to create a team ideology that would work for all of those involved.

Fifth Third Bank Team to D.A. Davidson
Rick Han from Northern California was a part of the Edward Jones reduction in force in early 2015. Edward Jones gave ample opportunity for all the released Public Finance bankers to be compensated while they were looking for new opportunities. Rick was introduced to Novum Group from a referral by a satisfied client of Novum in the middle of 2015. RIck had already began his search in earnest. He reach out to Novum Group to ascertain if there were any other opportunities that he was unaware of, as he had been interviewing with numerous firms already. Rick was introduced to one firm that felt like the best opportunity for him. After the first interview, it became apparent that this would be the right fit for Rick. After numerous conversations with Harlan, in early 2016, Rick furthered his career with D.A. Davidson where he was able to not only procure a position for himself, but another individual he has worked with in Missouri while at Edward Jones. Rick and Dana are very happy and productive working together under one roof in Northern California.

J.P. Morgan Team to UBS

In March 2016, Megan's team placed a $200mm JP Morgan team with UBS in Boca Raton, FL. Meryll Bangsil & Jake Bryant were previously partners with Ameriprise before their transition to JP Morgan.

At the time that we started the discussion with the team, their business was thriving, but recent changes regarding the firm's segmentation of their retail and high net worth lines of business created some concern for the team, given their focus on clients >$1mm in assets. They explored a few targeted firms during their quest to find a business model that would fit their needs, as well as their clients'. After five months of due diligence and preparation for the move, Meryll and Jake ended up landing with UBS due to their brand recognition in the high net worth space, local branch management support and the resources to continue growing their team.

Rice Financial & PNC Banker to Stern Brothers

Kevin Boyce, the past Treasurer of Ohio, reached out to Novum Group to help in his transition from public to private life, and to identify investment banking opportunities where he could utilize his previous banking, as well as his political acumen. Harlan and his team recommended that it would be most effective for Kevin to team up with a very competent transactional Public Finance banker. Upon agreement, Novum Group was tasked with the responsibility of making that perfect match. We were very fortunate to find a very personable as well as astute banker in the Ohio Market. Christy McMurry was already very familiar with the political rise of Kevin Boyce in the state legislator and was pleased to team up with Kevin. Novum Group identified a firm looking to expand in the Ohio market and it was a natural transition to the hiring of Kevin and Christy in 2015.

Wedbush Team to Stern Brothers

In 2015, Harlan Friedman reached out independently to both the manager of a Public Finance department as well as the Senior Banker at the same firm; each one not aware of the others' conversation with Novum Group. While working independently with both of these bankers, any idea surfaced to introduce these bankers as a team, instead of continuing to interview them independently. The fact that neither person knew about previous conversations stresses the importance Novum Group plays on confidentiality. After all communication became joint interviews we set up a couple firm interviews. It became apparent that Stern Brothers would be the most opportune situation to open a California practice. Both Richard Clark, Richard DeProspo and their junior Banker, Ken Yoon, are currently working at Stern Brothers and doing well.

Oppenheimer Team to Ameritas

Jack Holland, from Kansas City, Missouri, received an email from Harlan's team and began exploring opportunities where he and his eight person team could move as one unit from their current firm. Harlan worked extremely close with two of the leading bankers to identify potential opportunities where they would be assured that their entire team would remain intact. After an initial introduction to Scott Fletcher, of Ameritas, there was an immediate affinity of all parties. Jack Holland and Brad Max began their prolonged due diligence of Ameritas and came to the conclusion that all their needs could be satisfied by joining this Lincoln, Nebraska based firm. Novum Group was intrumental in navigating this logistical "nightmare" of not only moving the principals, but all of the additional support personnel. As with most team moves each individual has their own contract negotiations with the acquiring firm and Novum Group managed that entire process so that in 2015 the entire 9 person team moved and are still there today.

Ross Sinclaire Team to Boenning and Scattergood

Omar Ganoom reached out to Novum Group in 2015 where he expressed his frustration with his current company. It was recommended to Omar that most firms will not hire just one individual and that he needed to seek out a support/junior banker for Novum Group to be effective in assisting him in the transition. After a three month search Novum Group identified a perfect partner for Mr. Ganoom. Omar and Rob were then introduced to numerous opportunities and it was clear from the very first meeting that they were an ideal fit for a small focused broker dealer. Omar and Rob opened up there office in Ohio, and since then they have never looked back on the two firms that they both left to join Boenning and Scattergood operation.

"It's a wonderful feeling. It's hard to describe, what you do is provide hope, opportunity, and more importantly you make peoples lives better. You should feel great today, I am grateful to you. Thank you."       - Omar Ganoom

RW Baird Team to William Blair

Ajay Thomas' Public Finance team had been introduced to Novum Group about two years before we were able to identify the perfect opportunity for Ajay and his team. It had been Ajay's desire to obtain a position of Head of Public Finance for his next move. Harlan and Ajay identified various opportunities during the planning process and it was determined that William Blair would be the best opportunity Ajay and his team moved in 2014 and has been extrememly successful in their transition as both bankers in the Texas market and Ajay as Head of Public Finance for the firm.

Huntington Bank Team to D.A. Davidson

Steve Conn and his partner, TJ, had been successful Institutional Sales people for 11 years with Huntington Beach in Ohio. They had been thinking of looking at other firms for some time, and as various factors became more significant in limiting their growth, they worked with Novum Group to explore their options. Within about six months, they found a perfect fit with D.A. Davidson. The two opened their own office in Colombus and successfully transitioned their business with some assistance with their new team.

HSBC Team to Wells Fargo Advisors - Wealth Hub

In the wake of national changes in HSBC's investment group's structure, Thomas Darden and his Premiere Banker, Marc Infante left HSBC to join Tim Ratty's group in the Wells Fargo Advisors Wealth Hub located in Fort Lauderdale, FL in 2013. Thomas was intrigued by the ability to focus on high net worth clients while also being able to offer his current clients the local representation that the Wells Fargo brand is widely known for. Their team approach and cross-selling opportunities would allow Thomas and Marc to strengthen and deepen their existing relationships with clients while also giving them the ability to secure larger accounts and offer a completely holistic-planning approah.

Citizens Team to Wells Fargo Advisors - FiNet

Jamie Oliver and Jime Venditti were a $1.25mm Citizens team that transitioned to Wells Fargo's independent channel, FiNet. This duo explored options with three clients, spanning from the wirehouse channel to other independents.

After they realized that business ownership was of greatest importance to them, landed with FiNet. In addition to other factors, Wells Fargo's independent channel became the obvious choise for their current bank clients' needs.

UBS Team to Wells Fargo Advisors - PCG

Robert Baker and his $225mm team with UBS joined Wells Fargo Advisors - PCG in Northern NJ, with the help of Novum Group. Given the timing of this deal during the height of turmoil associated with the recession, this team did a very thorough due diligence of the competing firms in market. This was focused on the major wirehouses.

It appeared that the Wells Fargo/Wachovia merger had the least amount of disruption to advisors and did not involve a change in platform, as Wells Fargo did not have a presence on the East Coast at the time. Wells Fargo was also able to put together a competitive offer to lure these advisors in their direction.

PNC Team to Wells Fargo Advisors - WBS

This $1mm team from PNC joined the Wells Fargo Advisors banking channel, WBS in Southern NJ. The driving force behind this deal was the team's interest in consolidating their branch coverage to a smaller market. PNC had them spread too thin and they were not able to spend enough time on their clients as they would have liked. Additionally, the local management had a huge part in making this deal happen, and they felt confident that she would help them be more successful than before they joined.
